I Built an AI-Powered Travel Planner App Using Google Maps

Hi everyone! I'm excited to share the story of building and launching my first mobile app — HolidAI, a personalized trip planner powered by AI and Google Maps API.

If you're into solo projects, travel, or building real-world apps with AI, I hope this post gives you some insight or inspiration.

What is HolidAI?
HolidAI is an iOS app that creates personalized travel itineraries based on your preferences. It asks you for:

  • Destination city (300+ cities available)

  • Who you're traveling with (solo, partner, friends, or family)

  • Your travel interests (e.g., food, nature, culture, nightlife)

  • Transportation method (walking, public transit, or driving)

  • Budget

Then, using a combination of AI and Google Maps API, the app generates a full daily travel plan customized just for you.

Key Features
🗓️ Plans optimized by duration — short trips focus on highlights, long trips are spaced out.

🚶‍♂️ Transportation-aware suggestions — walking plans won't send you across the entire city for one thing.

🧭 AI-curated activities based on your selected travel "vibe."

🧾 Clean UI focused on simplicity and clarity.

Monetization
HolidAI is subscription-based, but users can generate a trip and preview the first day of the itinerary for free to get a sense of what the app offers before subscribing.

Marketing is hard
As a solo developer, building the app was one thing — but marketing it is an entirely different beast 😅

I’m very new to product marketing, so if you have suggestions, resources, or just feedback from a user’s point of view, I’d love to hear it. Seriously — all feedback is welcome!

Try It Out
You can find HolidAI on the App Store here:

If you try it, please let me know what you think. I’m actively working on improvements and new features.

Thanks for reading 🙌

PS
If you’re also working on a solo project or your first app, drop a link in the comments — I’d love to see what others are building!
