Why Every Professional Needs More Than Just a LinkedIn Profile

So here’s the thing. I like LinkedIn. It’s useful, it’s kinda like the digital handshake we all default to now. But, honestly, if your whole online presence is just a LinkedIn profile… you’re leaving so much on the table.

LinkedIn is rented land

You don’t really own your profile. LinkedIn does. They control the rules, the design, even who sees your posts. One day they change the algorithm (again) and suddenly, poof, nobody’s engaging with you. It’s like building your dream house on someone else’s land—you never fully control it.

A website feels more “you”

Think about it. On your own personal site, you decide everything. Colors, tone, stories, even how you introduce yourself. Clients or employers don’t just see your résumé bullet points—they see your work, your projects, your vibe. That’s way more powerful than a “Connect” button.

Funny story

A friend of mine (she’s a designer) had an amazing LinkedIn profile. Tons of connections, shiny endorsements, all that. But when a client asked if she had a portfolio website, she froze. She didn’t. And guess what? She lost that client to someone who did. That’s when it hit me—LinkedIn can open the door, but your website is what makes people actually step inside.

The professional shortcut

Here’s the part I love: you don’t need to be some tech wizard to make this happen. Tools like Visitfolio.com make it stupid-simple to set up a personal website that feels legit. You can add your portfolio, your services, even booking if you’re into coaching or consulting. Basically, it’s your LinkedIn—but actually yours.

Wrap-up thought

LinkedIn is a piece of the puzzle, sure. But if you want to stand out, build trust, and actually look like a professional in 2025… you need your own space online. A site you control. A place that works even when LinkedIn’s algorithm doesn’t.

So yeah, keep your profile. Just don’t stop there.
