The Event
This weekend I headed to St. Joseph's Institute of Technology, Chennai for TossConf 2026 — the Tamil Free & Open Source Software conference. If you haven't heard of it, it's basically the largest gathering of Tamil open source developers, creators, and localisation enthusiasts, all coming together around one shared idea: building privacy-first tools, translation frameworks, and computing freedom for the next generation.
As someone who cares about open source and loves seeing it grow in regional language communities, this was exactly the kind of event I wanted to be part of.
Walking In
The energy in the room was great from the start — packed benches, laptops open, people ready to dig into talks and discussions.

The first session I sat in on had a good crowd, with the speakers walking through their topic on the big screen while everyone followed along on their own machines. Great mix of people — some clearly deep into the FOSS world already, others (like me) just there to learn and soak it all in.
Small Group Discussions
Later in the day, things shifted into a more relaxed, roundtable-style format. Smaller groups, more back-and-forth, more room for questions.
