Do you ever feel your screen is too colorful — like every website is shouting for your attention?
That’s why I built Grayscale Webpages — a lightweight Chrome extension that turns any site instantly black‑and‑white, helping your eyes and your focus rest.
🌙 Why I Created It
I spend long hours coding, reading docs, and checking social media — and my eyes were exhausted. Dark mode helps, but endless color still overstimulates focus and attention.
I wanted something simpler: a toggle that could mute all colors on any webpage with just one click.
That tiny idea turned into a clean, open‑source‑style Chrome extension I now use every day.
⚙️ How It Works
Once installed, Grayscale Webpages adds a single button to Chrome’s toolbar. Click it — and the entire webpage transforms into grayscale instantly. Click again, and color returns.
No fancy permissions.
No analytics.
No ads or tracking — just a small UI overlay that switches the color filter.
Behind the scenes, it injects a minimalist CSS filter that affects the current tab only, keeping your privacy and browsing performance intact.
👁️ Benefits
- Reduce eye strain — softer contrast and less visual noise.
- Boost focus — remove distracting colors from news or social media.
- Mindful browsing — helps separate “fun scrolling” from “intentional reading.”
- Perfect for developers — check your designs’ grayscale contrast and accessibility in one click.
💡 Bonus Tip
You can even pair it with “Dark Mode” or “Reading Mode” extensions to create a distraction‑free digital environment for deep work or nighttime reading.
