The eye-catching number in KRAFTON’s 2023 publishing plan was 30+ games by 2026.
The more useful number today is 26 projects in an active pipeline.
That change is not necessarily a contradiction. It shows a publisher moving from a broad release ambition to a more curated system for testing, learning, and scaling games.
From volume to validation
The original plan, reported by Game World Observer, described more than 32 titles across fiscal years 2024–2026. The mix mattered: mobile, PC, console, first-party teams, and outside developers. Projects such as Dark and Darker Mobile, Project inZOI, Project Black Budget, a new Subnautica, and Project Gold Rush pointed to a portfolio strategy rather than another single-franchise bet.
In January 2026, KRAFTON described the next stage as a “learn-fast, scale-up” approach. The company said it would use Early Access or limited market launches to validate a game’s potential before committing more resources. Its 26-project pipeline included 12 titles targeting release within two years.
For game development, this is a familiar idea with a sharper business consequence:
Prototype broadly.
Measure honestly.
Scale selectively.
The goal is not to turn every experiment into a live service. It is to find the projects where player behavior, product quality, and team execution reinforce one another.
What the current results tell us
The strategy is easier to understand when connected to KRAFTON’s recent results.
- inZOI and MIMESIS each passed one million sales after entering Early Access.
- Subnautica 2 passed 5 million units within 22 days of its May 2026 Early Access launch.
- KRAFTON reported KRW 1.29 trillion in Q2 2026 revenue, up 94.9% year over year.
- First-half revenue from the PUBG IP Franchise rose 25% year over year.
- The company is expanding PUBG as a content platform through new modes, collaborations, and user-generated-content tools.
These outcomes do not prove that a large pipeline automatically works. They do show why validation gates matter. A project can earn more investment by demonstrating a strong player loop, a community that wants to return, and a team that can keep improving the experience.
Why a curated pipeline is healthier
A publisher’s announced game count is a weak signal on its own. It says little about:
| Signal | What it tells us |
|---|---|
| Number of announced games | How wide the bet is |
| Early Access or limited launch | Whether the team is willing to learn in public |
| Player retention and feedback | Whether the core loop has pull |
| Studio ownership and partnerships | How the publisher is building capability |
| UGC and live-service tools | Whether the game can grow with its community |
KRAFTON’s current framing puts more weight on the middle of that table. It is not only looking for new titles; it is building a repeatable way to discover franchise IP.
That matters because the riskiest part of game publishing is rarely the first announcement. It is the gap between a promising prototype and a durable product. The feedback loop has to be fast enough to guide production, but disciplined enough to stop a weak idea before sunk costs become the strategy.
The player is part of the gate
Early Access works best when it is treated as a design relationship, not a marketing date.
Players supply more than sales. They reveal which mechanics create repeat play, which systems create friction, which features deserve depth, and which promises do not survive contact with the controller. A publisher that listens well can turn that signal into better prioritization.
That is the real takeaway from KRAFTON’s transition. The headline is still “30+ games.” The operating lesson is smaller and more useful:
A portfolio becomes powerful when every project has a credible path from experiment to evidence to scale.
