When people hear NVIDIA, the first thing that comes to mind is GPUs. And that's completely understandable; NVIDIA has become the leader in AI acceleration.

But here's something that surprises many beginners...

If you look at the evolution of NVIDIA's DGX AI systems in the timeline below, you'll notice that NVIDIA has gradually evolved from being just a GPU company to building an entire AI computing platform.

πŸ€” Why did NVIDIA start building CPUs?

As AI models continue to grow, moving data between the CPU and GPU has become a major bottleneck.

Instead of relying only on CPUs from Intel or AMD, NVIDIA designed its own Grace CPU specifically for AI and high-performance computing.

The result is:
βœ… Faster communication between CPU and GPU
βœ… Higher memory bandwidth
βœ… Better performance for training and inference
βœ… Lower power consumption for large AI workloads

This combination of Grace CPU + Hopper/Blackwell GPUs is what NVIDIA calls Grace Hopper (GH200) and Grace Blackwell (GB200/GB300) systems.
