Every job application asks you to tell the same story again. Your work history. Your skills. Your biggest wins. The reason you left your last job. You type it fresh every time, and every time it comes out a little different, a little worse.
There is a better way. Keep your whole story in one file, then let ChatGPT do the rewriting for each application.
The one file
Open a note and call it your Job File. Fill in these sections once, honestly, in plain words:
Work history: each job, what you actually did there, and one result you are proud of. Not your job title. What changed because you were there.
Skills: the tools you use, the ones you are learning, and the ones you could teach someone else.
Wins: three to five moments you would brag about to a friend. Numbers help. "Cut onboarding time from two weeks to three days" beats "improved processes."
Target roles: the jobs you actually want, not every job you could do.
Boundaries: pay floor, shift limits, commute limit, dealbreakers. This keeps you from applying to jobs you would hate.
That is the whole file. Thirty minutes once, and it pays off for every application after.
The prompt that uses it
Paste your Job File into ChatGPT, then add:
"Here is my Job File. I am applying for this role: [paste the job posting]. Write me three things: 1) a short cover letter in my voice, 2) five resume bullets that match this posting using only real experience from my file, 3) three interview answers for the questions this employer is most likely to ask. Do not invent experience I do not have. If the posting asks for something missing from my file, flag it instead of faking it."
That last line matters. ChatGPT will happily invent a certification you never earned. The flag rule stops that.
Why this works
Hiring managers read dozens of applications that all sound the same. Yours will not, because it is built from your real wins, matched to their actual posting, in your voice. And you will stop dreading applications, because the hard part, remembering your own story, is already done.
One more tip: after every interview, add two lines to your Job File. What they asked, and what you wish you had said. Your file gets sharper every time you use it.

Your story is worth telling well. Write it once, then let the machine do the rewriting.
