Sunday night. You have a stack of grading, three lesson plans to finish, emails from parents you have not answered, and a meeting on Tuesday you keep forgetting about.
All of it is living in your head. Monday morning ambushes you anyway.
Here is a fix that takes five minutes. Paste this into ChatGPT on Sunday night, fill in the blanks, and let it hand you a plan.
The prompt
Copy this, fill in your week, paste it in:
You are my week planner. Here is my week:
Classes I teach: [list them]
Grading due this week: [what, and for which class]
Meetings: [day, time, what it is about]
Parent emails or messages to answer: [short list]
Personal stuff I cannot forget: [appointments, errands, family]Give me back:
- A plan for each day, Monday to Friday, in order.
- My top 3 priorities for the week.
- A list of open loops: everything I am waiting on someone else for, and who I am waiting on.
- One thing I can drop or delay without anyone noticing.
Keep it short. No fluff. If something is missing, ask me one question, not ten.
Why it works
Three reasons.
First, it gets the week out of your head and onto a page. That alone lowers the Sunday night dread, because you can see the whole week instead of feeling all of it at once.
Second, the open loops list is the part most plans skip. Half of teacher stress is not the work itself. It is the waiting: a reply from a parent, a form from the office, a gradebook question from a colleague. When those live in a list with a name attached, they stop buzzing in the background.
Third, the "one thing to drop" line matters. Every week has something that feels urgent and is not. Asking for it by name forces a choice, and the choice is usually obvious once you see it written down.
Try it tonight
It works with the free version of ChatGPT. You do not need a paid plan, a plugin, or any setup. Five minutes, one paste, and Monday starts with a plan instead of a panic.
If you like the open loops idea, there is a free skill that turns it into a standing habit. It tracks every open loop in one list so nothing quietly slips: https://github.com/lilnickyai/claude-code-skills-samples/blob/main/follow-up-tracker/SKILL.md
I send out one free skill like this each week. If you want them in your inbox instead of hunting for them, sign up here: https://lil-nicky-ai.kit.com/d26c1ccfd6
And if you want the full set, the Everyday Productivity pack has six installable skills for exactly this kind of week: morning brief, inbox triage, meeting prep, decision help, and more. It is $19 here: https://littlenova5.gumroad.com/l/llhvc
One more thing, since the holidays are coming: if you are shopping for a teacher, a small business owner, or someone who makes things, I put together a gift guide for exactly those people: https://dev.to/lilnickyai/gifts-for-the-person-who-runs-a-small-business-teaches-or-makes-things-1l0
Plan the week on Sunday. Teach during the week. Leave the carrying to the list.
