I Built a Daily Trivia Game Where the Least Popular Correct Answer Wins

Every trivia game I've ever played rewards the same thing: knowing the most obvious answer the fastest.

Pub quiz, phone app, TV show — the winner is whoever shouts "Paris" first. There's nothing wrong with that, but it means trivia is a reflex test, not a thinking game. I wanted to build the opposite: a daily trivia game where the least popular correct answer wins.

That game is Krillion (https://littlefungames.com/krillion/), and it's live now at littlefungames.com — free, no signup, one new puzzle a day.

The scoring mechanic

The rules are simple: each day there's a trivia prompt with many valid answers. Everyone answers. Then scoring flips the usual logic — the fewer people who gave your answer, the more points it's worth. The most common correct answer scores the least.

Suddenly "Paris" is a terrible answer. The winning move is knowing something true that nobody else thought of. It rewards depth of knowledge over speed, and weird-but-correct beats safe-and-obvious every time.

Why daily, and why no signup

Two decisions that shaped everything:

One puzzle a day. Scarcity is the mechanic. When there's exactly one puzzle, everyone plays the same one, everyone argues about the same answers, and the leaderboard means something. An infinite question bank would kill the shared conversation.

No signup. Every account wall is a funnel where players leak out. Krillion runs entirely in the browser — open the page, play today's puzzle, see your score. If someone wants to come back tomorrow, the game is the reminder, not an email drip.

Three things I learned

Invert the incentive, change the game. I didn't invent new trivia questions — I just changed what gets rewarded. The entire feel of the game comes from one scoring rule. Mechanics are cheaper than content.

Friction is the enemy of daily habits. A daily game lives or dies on whether playing takes under a minute to start. No signup, no app install, no onboarding — the puzzle is the homepage.

Design for the argument after. The best moment in Krillion isn't submitting your answer — it's seeing the results and arguing that your obscure answer deserved more respect. Games that generate conversation retain players for free.

Krillion is free at https://littlefungames.com/krillion/ — new puzzle every day, no account needed. Come give the obvious answer. Someone with a weirder one will beat you.
