If you've tried to upload screenshots to App Store Connect recently and got "invalid dimensions" for an image that looked fine, you're not alone. The rules changed a bit, and most of the lists floating around are out of date.
Here's what actually matters in 2026.
The short version
- iPhone 6.9" is the one slot you need. Native size is 1320 x 2868 (portrait).
- iPad 13" is required only if your app runs on iPad. Native size is 2064 x 2752.
- Everything must be PNG or JPEG, RGB, with no alpha channel.
- You can upload up to 10 screenshots per device size, per language.
That's it for most apps. The rest of this post is the detail behind each line.
A slot is not a single size
This is the part that confuses people. Apple doesn't have one size per device class. Each class is a slot that accepts a few exact sizes.
iPhone 6.9"
| Orientation | Native | Also accepted |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait | 1320 x 2868 | 1290 x 2796, 1260 x 2736 |
| Landscape | 2868 x 1320 |
iPhone 6.5" (only if you don't provide 6.9")
| Orientation | Native | Also accepted |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait | 1284 x 2778 | 1242 x 2688 |
| Landscape | 2778 x 1284 |
iPad 13"
| Orientation | Native | Also accepted |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait | 2064 x 2752 | 2048 x 2732 |
| Landscape | 2752 x 2064 |
If you have a choice, use the native size. It's the sharpest on the devices that show it.
What happened to 6.7"?
It's gone as a separate class. The iPhone 15 Plus and 14 Pro Max sizes now fall under 6.9". So if you have old 1290 x 2796 screenshots, you don't need to redo them. They go straight into the 6.9" slot.
"The size is right but it still fails"
Nine times out of ten this is an alpha channel. A PNG exported from Figma or Sketch can keep transparency data even when every pixel is opaque, and App Store Connect rejects it.
Fixes:
- Export as JPEG instead
- Or flatten the PNG onto a solid background (on a Mac, open in Preview, Export, and untick Alpha)
Other upload-time failures worth checking: the file isn't RGB (CMYK sneaks in from print templates), or the colour profile isn't sRGB.
Don't bake in Apple's frame
Apple doesn't add rounded corners or device frames for you, and it doesn't require them either. If you want a frame, it's part of your artwork. Just make sure it matches a device your app actually supports. An iPad frame on an iPhone-only app is asking for trouble at review.
Quick checklist before upload
- [ ] 6.9" iPhone set at 1320 x 2868 (or an accepted alternative)
- [ ] 13" iPad set if you support iPad
- [ ] PNG or JPEG, RGB, sRGB, no alpha
- [ ] 10 or fewer per device, per language
- [ ] Every screen shown actually exists in the build
I keep an up-to-date version of this list, with Google Play's rules too, here: https://edokstudio.com/guides/app-store-screenshot-sizes. There's also a free checker that tells you which slot an image fits: https://edokstudio.com/tools/screenshot-size-checker.
If I missed a case you've run into, let me know in the comments.
