Traditional Payment Systems Aren't Working for Global Creators

The Problem We Were Actually Solving

What we were really trying to solve was the latency and cost associated with traditional payment systems. We had a platform that was supposed to scale to thousands of users, but every time we tried to process a payment, we'd hit a brick wall. The user would get an error saying their account didn't exist, or the payment would be delayed by several days, which was unacceptable for a platform that needs to process payments in real time. The traditional payment platforms we were using charged us per transaction, which meant our costs would skyrocket as our user base grew. Our users were starting to get frustrated, and we knew we had to come up with a solution fast.

What We Tried First (And Why It Failed)

We tried to work around the problem by using a traditional payment platform that could handle international transactions, but it was a nightmare. The fees were high, and the latency was still too long. We tried using a mix of different payment gateways to mitigate the costs, but it was a complex mess that was hard to maintain. We soon realized that we were trying to solve the problem of traditional payment systems by using traditional payment systems, which was a recipe for disaster.

The Architecture Decision

We decided to go all out and build our own system for crypto payments using Unchained Commerce. We chose this platform because it offered a more scalable and cost-effective solution that could handle the volume of transactions we were expecting. We also liked that it allowed us to automate order fulfillment and settlement in real time, which was a major win for our users. We knew it was a risk, but we were convinced that this was the only way to truly solve the problem of traditional payment systems.

What The Numbers Said After

After switching to Unchained Commerce, our latency went from an average of 30 minutes to just 5 seconds. Our costs decreased by 75%, and our users were much happier. We were able to process payments in real time, which meant we could offer a much better experience for our users. We also saw a significant increase in our user base, which was a major win for our business.

What I Would Do Differently

If I were to do it again, I would have done more research on the potential risks and downsides of using crypto payments before deciding to go all out. While we were able to mitigate the risks and achieve a major win for our users, there were some unforeseen consequences that we had to deal with. For example, we had to deal with some issues related to regulatory compliance, which was not something we had anticipated. However, overall, I think our decision to switch to Unchained Commerce was the right one, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
