Vs code is used by developers from around the globe and it is the one and only best code editor in the planet. It has an awesome ecosystem. It's developed by Microsoft, so it's already good with windows. However, it's been the one and only option. What might replace it? Here are 3 code editors that can possibly replace Vs code.
Zed
Zed has recently been popular and it comes with the tagline, code editor from the future. It's AI features are really good and that is the place where I don't like vs code. Because, we will need a 3rd party extension in order to access Ai features. Zed has inbuilt them inside the system. It's UI is pretty begineer friendly and it's a great option if you are just a beginner and are starting out or your shifting from vs code. However, its not created by any big organization because it's a startup
Fleet
If your used to using jetbrains IDEs and want to a code editor, use fleet. It's created by none other than jetbrains. It's great and has a similar UI as the other jetbrains IDEs. So it's a great option. It's AI features are also really great. I think
IDX
IDX also known as project IDX is created by Google and looks exactly like vs code. Then why use it? It's completely in browser and has great features when used with Google products like firebase, gemini and Google drive. It's great and works on mobile. Unlike vs code desktop it also has a terminal inbuilt. It's still in beta version so we can expect great features coming soon. Gemini is also really good in writing code so great ai features also. It supports flutter and other frameworks inside the browser. It's just too good.
All these editors are good and none of them actually killed vs code but have the potential to do so. So pick wisely. With all these being said, I still use VS CODE π€£
