Net Neutrality Now

Net neutrality, the term coined by Tim Wu a professor of media law, refers to a principle which networks should not be prejudicial and required not to favor any contents, applications, platform or website over others. In the present time, networks seem to be knotted to every Filipino's life. Clearly, Filipinos embrace new things, and are very much exposed to the use of network through devices. Unfortunately, net neutrality is not yet to be given allotted concern by the higher ups in our country, thus the advantageous acts of networks continue. Reported issues on net neutrality on other countries involves discrimination by protocol and IP address, favoring private networks, peering discrimination and favoring fast-loading websites. These are broad issues and in terms of our country, there will not be assurance that these are not occuring. Mobile internet, for instance, is guilty to this activity. You can notice that you can use your free data on Facebook and Messenger. However, you cannot freely access other resources while some applications were tied with charges for additional "data packets" such as Spotify, Instagram and Netflix. Most of the time, internet and network service providers also bundle the access for games, social networks, and other applications that were dominating the market which at first glance was nothing but a service offer. It greatly influences people to use these applications, which often masks the fact that there are far better and secured softwares that could provide greater benefits and fits the demands of the users.
