Stackoverflow survey 2020 is out! Here is a summary

As usual, StackOverflow conducted a survey on the developers over the internet. It is the 10th survey of StackOverflow. If you don't have the time to see the whole (report)[https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2020], here is a quick summary for you.

  • Among all developers, 55% are back-end developers.
  • About 78% of people do coding as a hobby.

  • 30% of people have programming experience for about 5 to 9 years.

  • about 40% of people have been coding professionally.

  • 19.2% of developers wrote their first line of code when they were 14 or 15

  • The majority of developers(26.5%) are between the age of 25 to 29.

  • A Bachelor's degree is obtained by about 46.2% of developers.

  • 26.2% of developers think that formal education is fairly important in development career.

  • 11.8% of developers in the US is female

  • JavaScript holds its position for eight years as the most used language by 67.% of developers.

  • The most used web framework is jQuery(43.3%)

  • The most used database is MySQL(55.6%)

  • The most beloved platform for developing is Linux.

  • 45.8% of developers use Windows as their primary OS.

  • Github is the most used (82.8%) collaboration tool

  • Perl developers get the highest salary per year($76k)

  • About 71% of developers are employed full-time. 12% are students

  • About 57.6% of developers are looking for a job indirectly

  • About 37% of developers learn a new technology every few months
