Agents do not quote your introduction. They quote the paragraph that answers the question in one pass: a definition, a decision rule, a constraint, or a comparison with the criterion stated out loud. B2B pages still open with a market tour and bury the answer under a heading the model has to infer. If the sentence an agent would need is not on the page, the citation goes to whoever wrote the sentence.
An answer block is a contract. It names the object, the condition, and the recommendation, and it still makes sense if the rest of the page is stripped away. "It depends" and "in today's landscape" are not quotable. A block a sales engineer would paste into a Slack thread is the right shape: use this when that is true, because of this reason, and do not use it when the exception applies. Write that paragraph on purpose, near the top of the URL you want cited, in the words your buyers use when they ask the engine.
One page, one question. A hub that tries to be the answer for pricing, implementation, and vendor selection will be quoted for none of them, because each paragraph qualifies the last. Split the questions across URLs you can defend, and put the block before the narrative. The narrative is for the human who arrives later. The block is for the agent that never clicks.
Specificity is what gets repeated, and it is also what creates liability if you are sloppy. Name the threshold, the owner, the failure, and the exception. Do not invent a statistic to sound concrete. A precise operating rule ages better than a borrowed percentage, and it is something a person on your team can stand behind. If the rule changes, update the block. An agent will keep quoting the old sentence after the hero section has been redesigned.
You can see the gap before you wait for citations. A website audit shows whether the page is technically fit to be fetched and whether the on-page signals even match the question. An AI search readiness check shows whether that URL is in a shape an answer engine can lift a claim from. If the block exists but the page is blocked, untitled for the query, or inconsistent, the block is a draft in a room the agent never enters.
Write the sentence you want quoted, put it where it can be fetched, and keep it current. Start with the website audit and the AI Search Readiness Checker, then the rest of the tools.
