During a trip across Italy, I hit the exact same wall that thousands of travelers face: planning was complete chaos. I was juggling messy Excel spreadsheets, copying and pasting recommendations from AI chat tabs, keeping 30 browser tabs open, and trying to figure out who paid for what in group chats.
When I looked at existing tools like Wanderlog, I hit immediate paywalls for essential features like route optimization and AI assistance. Other apps felt like rigid corporate tools from 2008 or forced every single person in the group to download an app and create an account just to see the itinerary.
I wanted something lightweight, fast, completely open, and without commercial friction. So I built Plux.
What is Plux?
Plux is an open-source, 100% free Progressive Web App (PWA) designed to organize group and solo trips in one unified place without subscriptions, ads, or paywalls.
Core Features
- Modular Day-by-Day Itinerary: Visual scheduling organized by stops, activities, and transport, with real-time route visualization.
- Real-Time Group Collaboration: Edit the trip simultaneously with travel companions without version conflicts.
- Zero Forced Registration: You can start planning or share a trip immediately without forcing everyone in the group to register or create passwords.
- Integrated Budget & Multi-Currency Tracking: Track expenses, view currency conversions, and balance group spending directly inside the trip workspace.
- Built-in Travel Utilities: Interactive packing checklists, live weather forecasts, currency converters, and integrated notes.
- Offline-First & PDF Export: Instant structured PDF export and client-side persistence so you can access your plans without internet connectivity.
- Contextual AI Assistant: Built-in intelligent assistant to help optimize stops, suggest schedules, and resolve destination logistics without paywalls.
The Tech & Philosophy Behind It
Instead of bloating the project with heavy dependencies, Plux was built with an offline-first and zero-friction philosophy:
- Vanilla JavaScript & Modern Semantic CSS: Prioritizing raw browser performance, fast load times on mobile, and low memory consumption.
- PWA Architecture: Works smoothly across desktop and mobile browsers, installable directly without going through app store hurdles.
- Privacy & Freedom: 100% open source, ad-free, and community-driven.

How you can support Plux & spread the word 🚀
Plux was built to prove that travel planning doesn't need to be locked behind $50/year subscriptions, bloated corporate dashboards, or privacy-invasive tracking.
If this resonates with you, here is how you can help this project grow:
Star the repo on GitHub ⭐: I'm currently trying to list Plux on Open Alternative, but their submission rules require at least 50 GitHub stars before they review the project. A quick star helps unlock that listing and gives open-source software more visibility:
👉 Star Plux on GitHubShare it with your travel group: Next time you or your friends are dreading planning a weekend getaway or vacation in an Excel sheet, send them Plux:
👉 https://plux.nibecarcofeben.com (Zero sign-up required, just share the link and start planning).Break it & give feedback: Plux is actively maintained and evolving. If you test it on an upcoming trip, drop your thoughts, feature requests, or bug reports in the comments below or open an issue on GitHub.
Word of mouth is the only marketing open-source projects have against heavily funded apps. Thank you for checking out Plux and helping build a better, open way to travel!
