Voice AI agents went from novelty to real infrastructure over the last couple of years. Every business that makes or takes phone calls at scale is now looking at some version of this stack — and a genuinely crowded field of platforms has shown up to serve that demand, globally and in India specifically.

Who's Building Voice AI Agents Right Now
Globally, a handful of names keep coming up: Retell AI (LLM-powered calling at scale, known for low ~600ms latency), Bland AI (developer-first, API-heavy, big on outbound campaign control), Vapi (an orchestration layer that lets you mix your own STT/LLM/TTS providers), ElevenLabs (voice quality specialist, thousands of voice options), Synthflow (no-code builder aimed at agencies and small teams), and PolyAI (fully managed, enterprise-only, built for very high call volumes).
In India specifically, the field looks a little different — shaped heavily by language. Sarvam AI leads on Indic-language and code-switching quality. Yellow.ai is the mature omnichannel player (voice, chat, WhatsApp) serving large enterprises. Reverie, Bolna AI, Squadstack, and Husky Voice each specialize somewhere between Indic-language depth and developer-first APIs. And funding is very much flowing into this space — Bengaluru-based Ringg AI, for instance, raised a $5.5M Series A earlier this year to build out its voice AI stack, a signal that investors see this as a real, durable category in India, not a passing trend.

That's not a small gap. Vaami's per-minute rate lands at roughly a third to a tenth of what most of the platforms above charge — while still running at 500–600ms real-time response latency, in the same range as Retell AI's own headline latency number, which is usually the benchmark platforms compete on.

Vaami isn't a single-use-case tool. It's already active across HR and recruiting, healthcare, automobiles, solar, e-commerce, and logistics — anywhere a business needs a phone conversation to happen reliably, at volume, without a person on the line for every single call. The common thread across all of them: inbound and outbound calling, real-time CRM/system integration during the call, and structured data coming out the other end instead of a raw recording nobody has time to listen to.
The Honest Take
Vaami is not the biggest name in this list yet — Yellow.ai, Sarvam, and the well-funded global players have real head starts. But the fundamentals underneath Vaami — a per-minute rate that undercuts nearly everyone above, genuine BYOT flexibility, and latency that competes with the best of them — are the kind of fundamentals categories get won on over a few years, not a few months.
