I kept losing small things between thinking them and writing them down: a call to make, a date someone mentioned, an idea for a project. So I built Note Way, a Mac app that lives in the notch.
How it works
Hold ⌥ Space anywhere on your Mac, say what's on your mind, and let go. Your window doesn't move. Note Way shows what it understood right below the camera and files it:
- an appointment goes to your calendar
- a task goes to Today
- an item goes to the right list
- a longer thought becomes a page in a topic
One sentence can become several entries: "Dentist at three, call Paul today and tomatoes on the grocery list" turns into an event, a task and a list item.
Commands work too: "Move the dentist to 4 PM" changes the entry you mean, and ⌘Z takes it back.
The design decision I changed this week
In my own testing, 1 in 4 dictations waited for a confirm click. That's friction in exactly the moment you want to get back to work.
So in 1.0.4, clear sentences save right away. If Note Way had to assume something, it says so in one quiet line. It only asks when something is really open, right in the notch.
Stack
- Mac app: Tauri + React
- Backend and sync: Convex
- Speech and understanding: OpenAI
Built solo in Germany. It understands English and German.
Try it
Mac with Apple silicon. The iPhone app is coming soon. You can try everything for 3 days, free and without a card (fair daily limits apply during the trial): noteway.ai
I'd love feedback, especially on the "save right away vs. ask first" balance. Where would you want it to ask?
