Your Aeon agent already works while you sleep. It lives in a GitHub repo, GitHub Actions wakes it on a schedule, it does its work, and it commits what it learned back to the repo. The only thing it could not do was answer you mid-conversation. ΓΉ
As of this week it can: install the Aeon plugin in ChatGPT and your agent shows up as tools inside the chat.
This guide covers the install, the first run, and what you can actually do once the agent is in the conversation.
What you need first
An Aeon agent. If you already run one, skip ahead. If not, setup takes a few minutes in the browser at www.aeon.fun/connect:
Sign in with GitHub.
*Create your Aeon repository *(a private copy under your account).
Connect an AI model (Claude token, API key, or OpenRouter).
Enable the skills you want.
Your API keys are encrypted straight into your own repo's secrets.
Nothing about your agent lives on anyone else's server.
Install the plugin in ChatGPT
Two routes, same result.
Route 1: the plugin directory. Open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar, search for aeon, and install the Aeon plugin ("Run your own scheduled agent"). You'll see an "Aeon plugin installed" confirmation and you're done.
Route 2: custom connector. If you prefer adding it by hand, go to Settings, Connectors, add a custom MCP server, and paste this URL:
https://www.aeon.fun/connect/mcp
Under the hood this is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets chat apps plug in external tools. Think of it as a USB port for AI assistants. The same URL works in Claude, Cursor, and Claude Code too (quick reference at the end).
Sign in and pick a repo
On first use, ChatGPT walks you through two steps:
Sign in with GitHub.
Pick which agent repo this chat is allowed to touch.
That consent screen is the whole access boundary. One repo per grant. Access expires after 30 days of non-use, and you can revoke it at any moment by uninstalling the Aeon Connect GitHub App.
First run
Type something like:
Help me set up and run an Aeon agent instance
If you already have an agent, ChatGPT finds it, confirms the setup, and can trigger a skill on the spot. Ask it to run your digest skill and watch your own repo: a GitHub Actions run starts within seconds. The skill executes in the exact same environment as your scheduled runs. No terminal, no keys pasted into the chat.
What you can do from the chat
The server exposes about twenty tools in six groups:
Run. run_skill fires any skill on your Actions, on demand. Your digest is scheduled for 7:00 tomorrow but you need it before a call right now? Ask for it.
Read. Recent runs, their output, and the memory the agent committed to git. "What did my agent do last night" is now a chat question.
Edit. update_skill changes a skill, update_strategy changes the agent's direction, update_soul changes its voice.
Grow. install_pack adds new skill collections.
Check. setup_status shows your configuration. Key names only, never the values.
Switch. switch_instance moves the session to a different agent repo.
There's also send_feedback for reporting problems straight to the Aeon team.
Prompts that work well
"Run the competitor digest skill now and show me the output when it's done."
"What did the agent do in its last three runs?"
"Search the agent's memory for anything about pricing."
"Update the strategy: prioritize Japanese dev communities this month."
"Install the research pack."
Security, stated as mechanisms
No "trust us" here, just how it works:
Secret values are never readable or writable over the connector.
setup_status reports that a key exists, nothing more.
Authorization is scoped to a single repo per grant, through a GitHub App.
Everything the agent does lands as commits and Actions runs in your own repo, so the full audit trail is yours.
Access expires after 30 days of non-use. Revoking is one click: uninstall the GitHub App.
The same URL in other clients
Already running the local Aeon MCP server? Register the hosted one as aeon-cloud so the names don't collide. The local option (apps/mcp-server, stdio) runs skills on your machine instead of GitHub Actions and fits Claude Code and Claude Desktop users.
