Project Scope Estimator — free browser tool for developers

Project Scope Estimator – Free Tool for Realistic Project Estimates

If you’ve ever struggled to estimate how long a project will take—or worried about quoting too high or too low—this one’s for you.

I built Project Scope Estimator to help developers and freelancers create realistic time and cost estimates without guesswork. It’s not magic—just a structured way to break down project requirements and apply consistent effort scoring.

Here’s how it works:

You define features or user stories, then score each on factors like complexity, dependencies, and testing needs. The tool uses those inputs to calculate total effort hours. From there, it applies your hourly rate (or team rates) to generate a cost estimate. You can also adjust for buffer time, meetings, and revisions—because real projects never go exactly to plan.

The goal isn’t to predict the future, but to create a shared baseline with clients (or stakeholders) so everyone understands what’s involved.

It’s live now with two tiers:

  • Free tier: Estimate up to 3 projects, export as PDF, save progress locally.
  • Pro ($9/month): Unlimited projects, cloud sync, team sharing, custom rate cards, and export to CSV.

No credit card needed to start. You can try everything locally before deciding to upgrade.

I built this after losing money on a few freelance gigs where I underestimated backend integration work. It’s happened to all of us. Now, I run every project brief through the tool first—even if it’s just a 10-minute sanity check.

It’s not perfect, but it’s better than a spreadsheet or a gut feeling.

Feedback welcome—especially from devs who estimate their own work. I’ll keep it lean, ad-free, and focused on utility.
