How a Continuous Band Sealer Works: A Guide for Small Food Packers

If you pack spices, tea, namkeen or snacks in pouches, sealing is usually the slowest step. A continuous band sealer is the machine most small units move to after a hand impulse sealer.

The basic idea

A hand sealer is press, wait, lift, repeat. A continuous band sealer works more like a mini conveyor:

  1. Two metal bands grip the open mouth of the pouch.
  2. The bands carry the pouch past a heating block that melts the film layers together.
  3. A cooling block sets the seal.
  4. Rollers press the seal flat and the pouch drops out at the far end.

The operator only feeds pouches in. There is no waiting for each bag.

What you control

  • Temperature: thin poly needs less heat, thick laminates need more. A wide range such as 0 to 300 deg C covers most films.
  • Belt speed: faster for thin films, slower for thick ones so the heat can get through.
  • Seal width: around 8 to 10 mm gives a strong, tidy seal for most retail packs.

Signs you have outgrown a hand sealer

  • One person spends most of the shift only sealing
  • Seals look uneven from operator to operator
  • Orders are waiting on packing, not on production
