A lens doesn't make light

A lens doesn't make light. It takes what is already there, scattered across a room, and decides where it lands.

I keep coming back to that image when I work with AI. The models can produce an essay, a hundred variants, a campaign, a plan, in the time it takes me to pour coffee. Production stopped being the scarce thing. What's scarce now is the decision: which one of the hundred is true? Which sentence is worth someone's three seconds of attention?

Scattered light is warm and useless. Focused light starts fires.

So I've changed what I ask of my tools. I no longer ask 'write me a post'. I ask 'what is the one thing in all this noise that I would still say tomorrow?' The answer is usually shorter than the draft, and usually less comfortable.

I think this is the quiet shift of the moment. We spent years building machines that make more. The interesting work is building the habit of making less, on purpose, and making it burn.

If you use AI daily: what is the one point you are aiming your light at today?
