How to Connect Your Own API Keys to Use GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini in One Window

👋 Hi folks! I’m one of the makers of 9xChat — a floating multi-agent AI workspace.
If you’ve ever juggled ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini in 10+ browser tabs… this post is for you.

Why I Built This Setup
Like many devs, I rely on LLMs daily: coding help, writing drafts, debugging prompts, generating docs, and more.
But switching between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini tabs?
🚫 Messy
😵‍💫 Distracting
🧩 No way to compare outputs in one place

So we built 9xChat — a lightweight floating window where you can plug in your own API keys and use multiple models side-by-side. No need to switch tabs or accounts.

What You’ll Need
Before we jump in:

Your own API keys for:

OpenAI (GPT-4, GPT-3.5)

Anthropic (Claude)

Google (Gemini via PaLM or Vertex AI)

A free 9xChat account (no install required) → www.9xchat.com

Step-by-Step: Connect Your API Keys

  1. Log into 9xChat You’ll see a clean floating interface with model tabs (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, etc.)

No login friction. Just start.

  1. Open the “Settings” Panel In the top-right corner, click the ⚙️ settings icon

Choose “API Key Manager”

  1. Paste Your Keys For each model, paste your API key:

GPT-4/GPT-3.5 → OpenAI

Claude 3 → Anthropic

Gemini 1.5 → via Google Vertex AI

Keys are stored locally only (not on our servers — privacy-first by design).

  1. Save and Reload Once saved, the model will activate.

You can now send prompts directly from the floating UI and get replies from multiple AIs at once.

🧪 Use Cases I Love

Here’s why I use 9xChat every day:

💬 Compare AI Responses Side-by-Side

Prompt GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini at once. Great for debugging, writing, and idea validation.

⚡ Token & Speed Check

I can instantly see which model is faster or more verbose — helps me pick the right one for the task.

🪟 Floating Window, Zero Distractions

It stays on top while I code, write, or browse. No tab-hopping. Just clean multitasking.

✍️ Personal Note

I built this to simplify my messy AI workflow.
Now it's the one tool I keep open all day.

Bonus: Why Self-Hosted Keys Matter
Freedom: Use any model version or rate limit you’ve paid for.

Privacy: Your data doesn’t go through our backend.

Control: Customize how you want to work.
Final Thoughts
We built 9xChat because AI workflows shouldn’t feel scattered.
Now you can turn your API keys into a real AI cockpit — compare answers, stay focused, and save hours a week.
