I wanted for a long time to build something of my own and one of my ideas was to build an exam platform where you can experience a certification exam like CCNA or something similar.
I began my research and finally I got my architecture: Django + PostgreSQL and basic Bootstrap.
My first steps? Procrastinate like hell! Tutorials over tutorials…
Just to give you an idea, I bought 2 Udemy Courses, 2 books, and watched a lot of YouTube videos. Found a really cool tutorial for bootstrap, but not like every other YouTube video! This was insane, and over 48 hours, step by step visual guides and explanations at every minute. At the end you had a really cool landing page with all things done by the book. Anyway, after that I started on Django, and this time I followed some good books that it took you through all the principles. That’s where I heard of the CRUD concept.
You read this and you must imagine, wow this guy is serious! Quite the opposite of course 🫣. I went back and forth, some days study, some days building stuff, till I got bored and left it for a while and then back again.
Oh, man, I was blown away. First hesitated a bit and I was doing the usual back and forth with GitHub copilot chat. I was basically using it instead of Stack Overflow and got incredible results. But at some point I realized that I was no longer coding. I was just asking how to do this and that and copy pasting from chat to my workspace.
Any point in continuing my tutorial rush?!! Neah, at least not for a starting noob like me.
More and more I felt comfortable using GitHub Copilot, and then a whole new world opened up. I found the holy grail, and I never realized this was possible. I integrated GitHub Copilot and basically I was just telling him (it) 🤭 what to do. Playing around with the LLM’s, I tried Claude.
Forget about anything else, I felt like I found God! it’s scary! Is this how you would feel? Don’t know, but Claude is scary indeed.
Ok, to finish things up this is what I built (www.learnmint.org)
it’s probably the closest thing to what I imagined. And now to think of it, all those thousands of lines of code, I realized that without AI, it was just a lost dream, a project that was never to be completed. We all have big dreams, but in reality it’s just false hope.
