I wanted to share a quick breakdown of a project I’ve been building called Prankwish.com — a platform that connects users with authentic, real-world performers to deliver personalized birthday, surprise, and comedy video greetings globally.
While the end product is all about fun and laughs, building a smooth e-commerce workflow for custom media delivery brought a few fun technical challenges!
🛠️ The Core Tech Stack
To keep the platform fast, scalable, and easy to maintain, we opted for a lean architecture:
- Frontend: Responsive HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript (optimizing for high performance and clean UX).
- Video Player Integration: Custom light video embeds to preview video styles without bogging down page load speed.
- Form Automation & Dynamic Input: Smart order workflows to capture custom scripts, photo uploads, and song choices seamlessly.
- SEO & Meta Tag Optimization: Crafting structured data (Schema.org) to make sure search engine bots correctly index our custom video categories.
💡 Key Challenges & Solutions
1. Optimizing Heavy Media Files for Mobile
Since Prankwish relies heavily on video samples to display performer styles, loading multiple heavy MP4s on mobile devices was hurting our Core Web Vitals.
Solution: We implemented lazy-loading techniques and custom video poster overlays. Videos only load upon direct user interaction, cutting initial page load time drastically!
2. Streamlining Custom Order Metadata
Unlike standard e-commerce platforms with fixed SKUs, every single order on Prankwish carries unique user metadata (recipient name, custom funny script, photo attachments, delivery speed).
Solution: We structured dynamic form validation on the client side before passing payloads to backend queues, reducing user drop-off and order entry errors.
