As a Brazilian software developer, I'm currently participating in GCI World 2026, a Data Science program offered by the University of Tokyo's Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory.
This week, I explored NumPy and learned about:
NumPy Arrays: Efficient mathematical operations.
Indexing & Slicing: Accessing specific elements and ranges.
Multidimensional Arrays: Working with matrices, rows, and columns.
Boolean Indexing: Filtering data using multiple conditions.
One of our homework exercises involved filtering an array to return only odd numbers divisible by 5.
def homework(a):
return a[(a % 5 == 0) & (a % 2 == 1)]
What makes this experience even more special is that the entire program is taught in English!
As a Brazilian student, this is an amazing opportunity to improve my technical English while learning Data Science and connecting with people from different countries.
Coming from a PHP development background, I'm enjoying exploring Python beyond traditional backend development.
Learning Python, practicing English, and stepping outside my comfort zone. One lecture at a time! Ty so much GCI. 💗
