I pointed two game library managers at the same folder.

597 game folders.
6,196 executable files.

Playnite scanned the executables.
Shelf identified 592 games.

Shelf: 208 seconds
Playnite: 455 seconds

But the bigger difference wasn't the scan time.

After Shelf finished, I had a list of games.
After Playnite finished, I still had to decide which executables were actually games.

To be fair to Playnite: it's free, open source, and great at what it's built for. Its docs point you to "Scan Automatically" for local games, where you pick which executables to add — and games added manually need their Play Actions (and sometimes the working directory) set up before they launch. That gives you full control. I just wanted the software to make those decisions for me.

That's why I built Shelf.

Shelf finds games. Not .exe files.
