Most benchmark sites test proxies by making simple HTTP GET requests to low-friction endpoints like Cloudflare static pages or basic JSON ECHO APIs. They report glowing 99.9% success rates and blazing sub-second latencies. But the moment you deploy those same proxies to extract DOM elements from strict anti-bot targets (like Instagram, Amazon, or Google SERP), your pipelines fail, rate-limits kick in, and true latency skyrockets.
To fix this transparency gap, we launched the ProxyVero Benchmark Engine.
In our August 2026 Inaugural Report, we evaluated 50 proxy providers worldwide and executed 40,873 real-world requests across 6 distinct target scenarios. Here are the most critical technical findings from the benchmark dataset.
Key Data Insights
- The "Anti-Bot Cliff": Across all 50 tested providers, the average success rate for Easy targets sat at 96.2%. However, when routing requests through Hard targets protected by advanced TLS fingerprinting and behavioral analysis, the global success rate plummeted to 74.1%.
- Huge Variance Across 50 Providers: While the Top 10 providers maintained high success rates, over 60% of the tested providers struggled with high failure rates and unpredictable IP rotation under real-world workloads.
- Latency vs. Success Rate Trade-off: The overall average Time To First Byte (TTFB) was 1.50s, but providers with aggressive IP rotation often introduced significant tail latency (p95 total time exceeding 88.4s).
- Provider Consistency: Success rate fluctuated by up to 23% depending on the time of day and regional pool routing (US vs. EU infrastructure).

The drop from 96.2% success on easy targets to 74.1% on hard ones is the number that matters, especially alongside p95 total time exceeding 88.4 seconds for aggressive IP rotation. With 40,873 requests across six scenarios, I'd want each result segmented by target, region, hour, retry policy, and failure class so the reported 23% time-of-day swing doesn't disappear inside an overall ranking. For production teams, a cost-per-successful-request metric would be more actionable than average latency alone, because the fastest provider can still be the expensive choice once retries and long-tail stalls enter the queue.
