Combining OS with git?

I know this may sound crazy (maybe it is already there but I am not aware of), how about combining #git and #OS? That is for making changes into OS file systems, start a new branch, then test changes and merge if I am happy with the output, and drop otherwise? I can also go back to the past version, IF in future i see conflicts. I happen to spend a lot of time to undo changes that I made. #Linux
