Point me in some directions, looking for opinions

Currently, I'm enrolled in a BS in computer science with a focus on software engineering. However, I live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm having to rely on remote opportunities even at the entry level. Any advice on whether I should go for a different degree if it's easier to start remotely? Or are there any good communities to keep in contact with about these concerns? (I'm just into tech; I don't care about the degree; I just love anything with tech.)
