Have you noticed that your problem is not starting… the problem is finishing?
You don't have a problem starting something new. There is excitement in a new idea, there is motivation, there is a plan. But after a few days, that energy suddenly disappears. And you start something new again.
This is not laziness. It is a pattern.
At the beginning, you have a clean picture in your head. You think everything will go smoothly, you will make fast progress, results will come very quickly. This imagination pushes you to start.
But when you go a little deeper, then reality changes.
The work seems boring
Progress slows
Errors appear
Confusion starts
This place is uncomfortable. And this is where most people stop.
There is an interesting thing, which is called the “novelty effect” in psychology. When you start something new, the brain releases dopamine. That's why the beginning feels exciting. But after a few days, that novelty ends. Then the work is no longer exciting, then discipline is needed. And this is where the game changes.
Another big reason is that you focus more on the result, not the process.
You think “If I do this, I will get to this level”
But when the process becomes boring, you don’t want to do it anymore. Because you can’t see the outcome instantly.
Take a real example. When you start the gym, you are very motivated for the first 5 days. But you don’t see any change in the mirror. Then your brain says, “This is not working”. Although scientifically, it takes time to build muscle, consistent effort. But you quit before you see the result.
The same thing happens in work.
There is another subtle truth. Many times you intentionally don’t finish.
Because if you finish, judgment will come. Then you will understand how much you are really capable of.
But if you don’t finish, you can keep an illusion in your head, “I could have done it if I wanted to”.
This sounds a little harsh, but in many cases it is true.
So what is the solution?
You have to understand, something starts with excitement, but ends with consistency.
If you want to finish, you have to change the rules.
First, start small, but have a clear end point.
For example, not “I will build the whole website”,
“I will only complete the header today”
Second, accept the boring part.
When the work starts to get boring, that’s when the real work starts. There is no shortcut to skipping this phase.
Third, make it a habit to finish.
Finish even if it’s not perfect. Because finishing gives your brain a completion reward, which helps you continue the next time.
Ask yourself a simple question.
What was the last thing you completed?
If you have trouble remembering, then understand where the problem is.
The last thing is very clear.
Starting doesn’t set you apart. Everyone starts.
Finishing sets you apart.
You can start 10 things if you want, but if you don’t finish even one, it has no value.
And if you finish 1 thing, even if it’s imperfect, it will put you far ahead of 10 unfinished ideas.
Make a decision before starting something new today.
This time you won't stop until you finish.
Because those who stay at the end get the real results.
