What actually changes when you become a manager Your deliverable stops being your code. The job is now your team's output — the roadmap they ship, the reliability they hold, the people they retain. Your own commits become a Tuesday-afternoon hobby, not the job. Your calendar inverts. The "maker's schedule" of long, uninterrupted blocks gives way to a "manager's schedule" — one-on-ones, planning syncs, stakeholder reviews, and the unglamorous admin of headcount and performance cycles.
