Building a DeFi Yield Scanner with Python and AI — 2026-10-07 #10

Automating yield discovery in DeFi is no longer just about scraping CSVs; it’s about interpreting risk, liquidity, and historical volatility in real-time. Traditional static spreadsheets fail when market conditions shift rapidly. By integrating Python with AI-driven analysis, you can build a dynamic yield scanner that not only identifies high-APY opportunities but also contextualizes their safety.

The core of this system relies on aggregating data from multiple sources. Use aiohttp for asynchronous requests to handle API rate limits from providers like DefiLlama or CoinGecko efficiently. Once data is ingested, normalize it into a unified DataFrame using pandas.

import pandas as pd
import aiohttp

async def fetch_pool_data(session, api_url):
    async with session.get(api_url) as resp:
        data = await resp.json()
        return pd.DataFrame(data['data'])

async def main():
    async with aiohttp.ClientSession() as session:
        raw_data = await fetch_pool_data(session, "https://yields.llama.fi/pools")
        # Filter for stablecoin pools >5% APY
        filtered = raw_data[
            (raw_data['stablecoin'] == True) &
            (raw_data['tvlUsd'] > 1_000_000) &
            (raw_data['apy'] > 5)
        ]
        return filtered

However, raw APY is a vanity metric. A pool might offer 20% APY but suffer from severe impermanent loss or low liquidity depth. This is where AI enters the equation. Instead of hardcoding risk rules, use an LLM to analyze metadata and recent price action. You can send a summarized context of the top 10 pools to an AI API, asking it to evaluate "risk-reward ratio based on token volatility and protocol age."

Practical tip: Do not send raw JSON dumps to the LLM. Context windows are expensive and limited. Pre-filter your data in Python to keep only the top 5-10 candidates, then format them into a concise natural language prompt. For example:

"Analyze these 3 DeFi pools: [Pool A: 15% APY, TVL $2M, Age 2 years], [Pool B: 40% APY, TVL $50
