LG's Humanoid Robot Plan: Factories First, Your Living Room by 2030

LG just put a date on the home humanoid dream. On its Q3 2026 earnings call this week, the company laid out a two-phase robotics roadmap — and phase two ends in your living room around 2030.

The plan

  • Phase 1 (now → ~2030): business-first. Humanoids for academia, public institutions, manufacturing, and logistics — places where a robot can earn its keep while the technology matures.
  • Phase 2 (~2030): home humanoids, timed for when LG believes the market "fully blossoms." Consumer-accessible pricing is explicitly part of the strategy — no $50,000 lab toys.
  • The appliance angle: LG says its robots and home appliances are being designed for each other, which makes sense — nobody understands the rhythms of a home like a company that already fills it with washers and fridges.
  • Data, data, data: LG raised its robot training-data target fivefold to 500,000 hours, a sign of how seriously it's taking the physical-AI problem.

Why 2030 is the industry's favorite year

LG isn't alone in circling the end of the decade — it's roughly when optimists think costs, dexterity, and battery life converge into something a household could actually use. The company showed its thinking earlier at CES 2026 with CLOiD, its "Affectionate Intelligence" home robot concept.

Skepticism is healthy: robotics timelines slip the way software deadlines do, only more so. But an earnings-call commitment with a phased business model behind it carries more weight than a concept video.
