CIS-CSM Exam Domains 2026: Official Weights Explained

The ServiceNow CIS-CSM exam is weighted heavily towards configuration and the CSM data model. Here are the five official domains, what each one covers, and how to split your study time.

The five official domains

These come from ServiceNow’s Certified Implementation Specialist – Customer Service Management (CIS-CSM) Mainline Exam Blueprint, marked “Updated November 2025”.

Exam domain What it covers (from the blueprint) Percent of exam
CSM configuration CSM in ServiceNow; routing and assignment; case types; channels 38%
CSM foundational data model Business models; product models; install base management; contracts and entitlements 27%
Case management Case state flows; major issue management; case digests and service definitions; CSM workspace; case actions, tasks and escalations 17%
CSM Best Practices and Knowledge Management Best practices: ServiceNow architecture, customer service end-to-end processes, defining project scope. Knowledge: functionality overview, Article Quality Index (AQI), knowledge blocks and search, bulk translations 10%
CSM Workspace, Portals, Service Catalog, Analytics, and Reporting Portals and Service Catalog; special handling notes, SLAs and targeted communications; platform analytics and reporting 8%

What the weights mean for your study plan

  • Configuration and the data model make up 65% of the exam. Get comfortable with routing and assignment, case types and channels, and with how accounts, products, install base, contracts and entitlements fit together.
  • Case management is the next block, at 17%. Know the case state flows, major issue management and escalations.
  • Do not ignore the smaller domains. Best practices and knowledge management (10%) and workspace, portals and reporting (8%) still add up to almost a fifth of the exam.
  • Check the date on practice material. Some third-party listings still describe older, different weightings. If a question bank barely covers the data model, it is not built to this blueprint.

For a 60-question practice test, those weights work out to roughly 23 configuration, 16 data model, 10 case management, 6 best practices and knowledge, and 5 workspace and reporting questions. That is the balance we use in our own CIS-CSM mock tests.
