Hello DEV community, I’m Eve from SCL Sports Lighting. 👋

I work in the sports lighting industry, where we design and provide LED lighting solutions for sports facilities.

SCL has been specializing in LED sports lighting in China for more than 18 years. We have worked on a wide range of sports lighting projects, including football fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, stadiums, training facilities, and other outdoor sports venues.

We have also participated in the drafting of China's national standard for sports lighting.

One thing I’ve learned from working on sports lighting projects is that a sports floodlight is much more than a high-power LED fixture.

For a successful project, engineers need to consider many factors:

Lighting level and uniformity
Beam angles and light distribution
Glare control
Installation height and pole position
Energy efficiency
Color rendering and visual quality
Environmental conditions
Maintenance and long-term reliability
Different requirements for different sports

For example, lighting a football field and lighting a tennis court may look similar at first, but the optical requirements can be very different.

The challenge is not simply “How bright should the light be?”

It is:

How can we put the right amount of light in the right place while minimizing glare, energy consumption, and unnecessary spill light?

This is where optical design, photometric calculations, LED technology, and practical engineering experience come together.

I’m joining DEV because I’d like to share more about the technical side of sports lighting—from LED technology and optical design to real-world project challenges and lessons learned from the field.

I’ll also be sharing some of our experience from more than 18 years in the industry.
