Record Yourself Playing

You think you know how you sound.
You don't.

Your ears lie to you while you play.
They hear the version in your head,
the one you meant.

So record it. Then listen back.

It's humbling the first time.
The rushed bar you didn't feel.
The note you thought was clean.
The dynamics that were all in your imagination.

The tape doesn't flatter
and it doesn't hold a grudge.
It just tells you where you actually are.

That gap — between the playing you feel
and the playing that came out —
is the whole map of what to practice.

Feedback you can't hear
can't make you better.

Hit record.
