Say No to Protect the Yes

Every yes is a no
to something else.

You just don't feel it yet,
because the cost arrives later,
quietly,
as the thing you never got to.

Say yes to everything
and you've said no
to the one thing
that actually mattered —
by starving it
of the time it needed.

Focus isn't doing more.
It's choosing what deserves you
and defending it
from all the reasonable, worthy,
well-meaning requests
that would spread you thin.

The hard part
is that most of what you decline
isn't bad.
It's good.
Good is exactly what makes
saying no so hard.

But a yes to everything good
is a no to anything great.

Protect the yes that counts.
Say no to the rest —
not because it's worthless,
but because you are not infinite.

The no is what makes the yes real.
