If you want to sign a contract online free, the usual path is frustrating: free generators let you build the document, then the signing step lands behind a paywall — or you're back to the print-sign-scan-email loop from 2005. E-signature platforms solve the signing part, but the mainstream ones meter it (per-envelope limits, monthly plans) for something that is, mechanically, drawing your name on a line.

How it works
- Pick a document — mutual or one-way NDA, freelance / independent contractor agreement, or a residential lease (with your US state's deposit caps and required disclosures filled in).
- Fill in the terms — parties, dates, fees or rent, scope. The live preview updates as you type, and optional AI can turn rough notes into clean clause wording.
- Sign — three ways. Draw your signature with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting font, or upload a photo of your real signature. Either party can sign, or both.
- Download the PDF. Signatures are stamped on the signature lines with a blank date line to complete; any party who hasn't signed keeps a classic blank line.
Everything runs in your browser. The document is built client-side, saved only in your own browser's storage, and the signature images never touch a server.
The two-party problem, handled honestly
Contracts have two signers, and they're rarely at the same keyboard. Three flows work:
- Same room: both parties sign on one device (landlord–tenant at a handover, freelancer–client on a call with screen share).
- Sign and send: sign your line, leave theirs blank, and email the PDF. The other party can add their signature without printing anything using the free eSign PDF tool — same three signing modes, also free.
- Paper preference: leave both lines blank and the PDF prints exactly like a traditional contract.
One honest note: this stamps a signature image onto the document — the same thing you'd produce with a printer and a scanner, minus the printer and the scanner. It is not a certified digital-signature service with identity verification and audit trails. Simple signature images are widely used and generally recognized for everyday agreements like these, but if a deal is high-stakes, ask a lawyer what your jurisdiction requires. Sign once, reuse everywhere
A signature you save is kept in a shared, browser-local vault used across the whole site: the contract generator, the cover letter and resignation letter generators, and the eSign PDF tool. If you need certified signatures with an evidence trail, a paid platform earns its fee. If you need a clean NDA signed before a Tuesday call, you don't.
