How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code — Let Anyone Message You With One Scan, Free

A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with your number when someone scans it — no need to share your contact, no need to manually add a number. One scan, one tap, message started.

It's useful for business cards, shop counters, restaurant tables, invoices, event badges, and anywhere you want customers or contacts to reach you instantly on WhatsApp.

How It Works

A WhatsApp QR code encodes a deep link in the format:

https://wa.me/[phone number]
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

When scanned, WhatsApp opens automatically on the scanner's phone with your number pre-loaded in a new chat. They tap Send to start the conversation — no contact-saving required.

You can also pre-fill a message, so the scanner sees a message already typed:

https://wa.me/[phone number]?text=Hi%2C+I+found+you+via+your+poster
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

This reduces friction further — customers don't have to think about what to say.

How to Generate a WhatsApp QR Code

  1. Go to the QR Code Generator
  2. Select WhatsApp as the content type
  3. Enter your phone number with country code (e.g., +91 for India, +1 for US) — no spaces or dashes
  4. Optionally add a pre-filled message
  5. Click Generate
  6. Download as PNG for digital use or SVG for print (vector, no pixelation)

Phone Number Format

Always include the country code. Examples:

Country Format
India +919876543210
United States +14155552671
United Kingdom +447911123456
UAE +971501234567

Do not include spaces, brackets, or dashes — just the + sign followed by digits.

Common Use Cases

Business cards. Print a WhatsApp QR code on your card so contacts can message you the moment they meet you — no typing your number.

Shop counter or reception desk. Display a printed QR code so walk-in customers can start a WhatsApp conversation for enquiries, bookings, or support.

Restaurant tables. Customers can message for table service, takeaway orders, or feedback without calling or flagging a waiter.

Invoices and delivery notes. Add a QR code at the bottom — "Questions? Scan to WhatsApp us" — to reduce inbound calls for routine queries.

Event badges. Speakers and attendees can share their WhatsApp contact without exchanging phones or spelling out numbers.

Social media bio. Screenshot the QR code and add it to your Instagram or Facebook page for followers to reach you directly.

Pre-Filled Message Tips

A pre-filled message reduces the friction between scanning and sending. Good examples:

  • Hi, I saw your ad and want to know more.
  • I'd like to book an appointment.
  • I have a query about my order.

Keep it short and natural. The customer can edit or delete it before sending — it's a starting point, not a commitment.

Print vs Digital Use

For printing (business cards, posters, flyers): download as SVG. SVG is vector — it stays sharp at any print size without pixelation. Minimum print size for reliable scanning: 2cm × 2cm.

For digital use (email signatures, social media, websites): download as PNG. Use at the size displayed — don't scale up a small PNG as it will appear blurry.
