The snake grows. The grid shrinks. Classic Snake — no app, no install, no account.
The Snake game at Ultimate Tools runs in your browser — built in React with a canvas-based renderer.
How to Play Snake
Goal: Eat food to grow the snake as long as possible. Don't run into the walls or yourself.
Controls:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | Change direction |
| W / A / S / D | Alternative directional controls |
| Space | Pause / Resume |
| Enter | Restart after game over |
The snake moves continuously in its current direction. You steer — you don't stop.
Rules
- Eat food — the food dot appears randomly on the grid. Move the snake's head onto it to eat. The snake grows one segment.
- Avoid walls — the snake dies if its head hits the edge of the grid.
- Avoid yourself — if the snake's head hits its own body, game over.
- Score — each food eaten adds to your score. The higher the score, the more the snake has grown.
Tips for a High Score
Plan ahead. At short lengths it's easy to steer freely. At long lengths, your previous path blocks new routes. Think a few moves ahead about where you'll be after eating the next piece of food.
Spiral inward. One reliable strategy: hug the walls in a large coil and spiral inward, keeping the body organized rather than crossing randomly.
Don't panic near walls. Most deaths happen when a player overcorrects near an edge. Commit to your direction and adjust early, not at the last moment.
180° reversal kills you. You cannot reverse directly — the snake can't turn back into itself. Left → Right and Up → Down are instant deaths.
