I just developed a Chrome extension called Bookmark Dashboard, a bookmark management tool, and I’d love to share it with fellow bookmark enthusiasts!
Why I Built It
The idea for Bookmark Dashboard came from my daily work routine. My former company used multiple platforms for code management, code reviews, document sharing, and more. I wanted a lightweight tool to save and organize these platform links for quick access.
I also frequently search for development-related learning resources and blog articles to solve coding problems. Since these resources are usually saved as web links, I thought a browser extension to manage them efficiently would be incredibly useful - so I built Bookmark Dashboard.
How It Works
With Bookmark Dashboard, once you save web links as bookmarks and organize them into categorized folders, everything could be viewed from a clean, neatly arranged dashboard. You can even pin the dashboard as a browser tab for instant access to your bookmarks.
The native bookmark manager in browsers doesn’t seem to support batch operations, so I added this functionality to make moving and managing bookmarks much more convenient.
How It Evolved
As my bookmark collection grew, I realized I needed a way to clean up broken links. So, I added a link detector to detect and remove dead bookmarks.
Later, when I switched work laptops, I found myself needing a backup and sync feature to transfer all my bookmarks seamlessly. That’s how cloud backup and restore functionality made its way into the extension.
Sharing What I’ve Learned
After all these iterations, I’m excited to share Bookmark Dashboard with others who rely on bookmarks as much as I do. I hope it makes managing bookmarks easier for more people!
Along the way, I’ve learned a lot about extension development. I plan to document these lessons here as a learning log and share it with who is also exploring similar development journey.
Thanks for reading, and happy bookmarking!
