A New AI Model Just Showed Up on My TV And I Finally Got Why I Built DEV·TV

I had one of those small moments today that probably sounds completely insignificant to anyone else.

I was watching DEV·TV.

And then I saw a new model appear.

Apodex 1.1 Mini (free).

OpenRouter lists the free version as released today, October 1, with a 262K context window.

The Apodex 1.1 model itself isn't new. That was released back in August.

But the free OpenRouter version was new today.

And then, almost exactly as I'd hoped, it showed up in the live AI Models channel on DEV·TV.

I just sat there for a second.

Because I've spent a lot of time building DEV·TV and trying to explain what it is.

It's a TV for the developer internet.

It pulls in things happening across the developer world — new models, GitHub projects, releases, security news, research and more — and puts them into something you can simply leave running.

No dashboard to constantly refresh.

No list of 50 tabs to check.

No “I should probably keep up with what's happening in AI today.”

Just leave the TV on.

And occasionally, something interesting appears.

Today it was Apodex.

Tomorrow it'll be something else.

And that was probably the first time I looked at DEV·TV and thought:

Okay.

This is actually doing what I built it to do.

It was a genuinely happy moment.

Not because Apodex is necessarily the most important model released today.

Not because I suddenly had some huge spike in traffic.

Just because I built something with a very simple idea behind it:

What if you could keep up with the developer internet without constantly checking the developer internet?

And today, for a brief moment, I felt like I'd actually built that.

There's another experiment on the TV

I've also started a Community Spotlight.

The idea is simple: give interesting developers and their projects some airtime.

The latest Spotlight features Paolo Perrone, an AI engineer, and his project.

I'm deliberately keeping this small and human for now. No advertising platform. No complicated submission system. Just developers sending me things they've built, and me deciding what deserves a little time on the screen.

If you've built something you'd like to see on DEV·TV, send in your entry at:

devtv.developers@gmail.com

I'd love to put the next one on TV.

You can check out the current Spotlight — and leave DEV·TV running for a while — here:

And if you like what I'm building, a ⭐ on GitHub would genuinely mean a lot. https://github.com/shouvik12/devtv

I'm still figuring out where this goes.

But today, at least, I got a little glimpse of why I started building it in the first place.

Something happened on the developer internet, and instead of going looking for it, I was already watching it happen.
