Building a Telegram Mini Apps Directory: Why Data Quality Matters More Than Data Volume

The Telegram Mini Apps ecosystem is growing rapidly, but discovering useful applications is still surprisingly difficult.

There are games, financial tools, productivity apps, shopping platforms, and thousands of experimental projects. Unfortunately, having a massive list of applications doesn't automatically make it useful.

At SpamGremlin, we're building a curated Telegram Mini Apps directory as part of a broader platform for Telegram moderation, analytics, and growth.

Here's what we've learned while working with millions of application records.

The Problem With Large Datasets

Collecting data is relatively straightforward. Turning it into something people can actually use is a different challenge.

Our initial dataset contains millions of records gathered from multiple sources. But raw data comes with several problems:

  • Duplicate and outdated application entries
  • Incorrectly categorized bots and Mini Apps
  • Missing or low-quality descriptions
  • Broken or irrelevant links
  • Applications that are no longer available
  • Inconsistent metadata across different sources

Publishing everything immediately would create a huge directory, but not necessarily a useful one.

More pages don't automatically mean better discovery.

Our Approach: Quality Before Quantity

Instead of exposing the entire dataset at once, we're building a controlled publication pipeline.

1. Data Validation

The first step is filtering invalid entries, identifying duplicates, and normalizing metadata.

Not every Telegram bot is a Mini App. Not every application record represents a working product.

Separating useful entries from irrelevant data is essential.

2. Categorization

Applications need meaningful categories that reflect what they actually do.

Games, finance, productivity, utilities, shopping, and other categories should help visitors navigate the ecosystem without already knowing an application's name.

3. Manual Curation

Automation can process millions of records, but it cannot reliably solve every quality problem.

That's why our first published batches receive additional manual attention.

We review application descriptions, categories, links, and other important information before making them available for discovery.

4. Gradual Publication

Rather than publishing millions of pages at once, we're starting with smaller, curated collections.

This approach allows us to improve data quality, identify problems early, and refine the directory based on real usage.

5. Continuous Improvement

Data quality isn't a one-time operation.

Applications change, disappear, move, or introduce new features.

Our goal is to combine automated processing with targeted manual review, keeping the directory useful without requiring someone to inspect every record continuously.

Why We're Building This

SpamGremlin is primarily focused on Telegram community management, moderation, analytics, and automation.

The Mini Apps directory is a natural extension of that ecosystem.

Community owners need tools. Developers need discoverability. Users need a reliable way to explore Telegram applications.

A well-organized directory can help connect these groups without becoming another enormous collection of unverified links.

What's Next?

We're continuing to improve our data processing pipeline, application classification, and discovery experience.

The immediate focus is simple: publish useful application collections, learn from the results, and expand gradually.

If you're building Telegram bots, Mini Apps, or community management tools, we'd be happy to connect.

We're building incrementally, focusing on useful data rather than simply maximizing the number of indexed pages.
