Reverse ASIN and Amazon Rank Tracking From Python, Without a Seller-Tool Subscription

Amazon sellers keep asking the same two questions: which keywords does this listing rank for, and is my rank going up or down? Seller tools answer both for a monthly fee. Here's how to get the answers from code and pay per result, plus what a real reverse-ASIN run returns.

Four modes

Disclosure: we (SteadyScrape) built the tool below and get paid when it's used.

Amazon Keyword Research & Rank Tracker: Reverse ASIN (steady-scrape/amazon-keyword-research-rank-tracker) is an Apify Actor with four modes:

Mode Input Output
reverse_asin 1–10 ASINs Keywords each product ranks for, with monthly searches and organic rank
related Seed keywords Keywords shoppers search around your seed
volume Up to 1,000 keywords Amazon monthly searches for your own list
rank_track ASINs × up to 100 keywords Live organic and sponsored rank, plus the change since the last run

What a real reverse-ASIN run returns

We ran the Actor's prefilled example input: one ASIN (B00FLYWNYQ, a well-known Instant Pot), Amazon US, 20 keywords.

  • 20 keywords returned in about 4 seconds.
  • Cost at the Free-plan list price: $0.03 run + $0.02 database request + 20 × $0.002 + $0.00005 Apify start fee = $0.090.

A few of the rows:

Keyword Volume Organic rank
sale 427,706 23
kitchen 161,530 18
pots 103,822 19
instant pot 57,783 1
kitchen appliances 46,076 5
slow cooker 43,608 17
pot 36,091 8
pressure cooker 34,856 1

Copy the high-volume keywords you're missing into your title, bullets and backend search terms, or feed them straight into a Sponsored Products campaign. Broad head terms like sale and kitchen show up often on reverse ASIN; filter by maxRank (e.g. page-one only) or keep the ones that match your product.

Example: reverse ASIN a competitor's best seller

from apify_client import ApifyClient

client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("steady-scrape/amazon-keyword-research-rank-tracker").call(run_input={
    "mode": "reverse_asin",
    "asins": ["B00FLYWNYQ"],
    "marketplace": "US",
    "maxKeywordsPerItem": 50,
    "maxRank": 48,   # page-one keywords only
})
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(row["keyword"], row["searchVolume"], row["organicRank"])
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Example: a daily rank tracker

run = client.actor("steady-scrape/amazon-keyword-research-rank-tracker").call(run_input={
    "mode": "rank_track",
    "asins": ["B00FLYWNYQ"],
    "keywords": ["instant pot", "pressure cooker", "slow cooker"],
    "marketplace": "US",
    "historyStoreName": "my-brand-ranks",
})
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(row["keyword"], row["organicRank"], row["sponsoredRank"], row["previousRank"])
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The Actor keeps the history in a key-value store in your own Apify account. Schedule it daily and every row carries previousRank, rankChange and a change label (up, down, entered, lost...).

Limits worth knowing

  • Reverse ASIN and related keywords cover Amazon US, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt; search volume covers 16 Amazon stores and rank tracking 15.
  • Search volumes are monthly estimates from a licensed keyword database, not Amazon's own numbers.
  • Rank tracking checks live Amazon results, 100 at a time; looking deeper than the top 100 costs one more check per page of 100.
  • Only public product information is returned. No seller or reviewer personal data.

Cost

$0.002 per keyword (less on paid Apify plans: $0.0018 / $0.0016 / $0.0015) and $0.006 per rank check (per ASIN × keyword × page of 100; paid plans $0.0054 / $0.0048 / $0.0045), plus $0.03 per run with results and $0.02 per keyword-database request, and Apify's $0.00005 start fee.

  • The reverse-ASIN test above: $0.090 for 20 keywords.
  • Reverse ASIN with 100 keywords: about $0.25.
  • Daily tracking of 20 keywords for one ASIN (depth 100): about $0.15 a day.

Runs with no results and filtered-out keywords aren't charged.

Try it on the Apify Store: the prefilled example input runs the same reverse-ASIN test shown above. For Google keyword ideas there's Keyword Research Explorer, for bulk Google volumes Keyword Search Volume, and for competitor Google gaps Competitor Keyword Gap.
