My thoughts on The Odin Project

Gotta start somewhere.

I have been a member of this site for some time and I do not know anything about being a Programmer. But what I do know is that I want to build and create cool stuff and I think that with the help of A.I. I will be able to do this.
Today I was scrolling and I came across The Odin Project. I just signed up and started the curriculum and I must say that so far I'm actually enjoying the learning process.
I do not have the budget to donate so I just figured that I would write something positive about the project and express my gratitude in that way.

Is Learning How to Code Really Necessary?

I had to ask myself this question and really give it some thought. Because of all the A.I. tools and resources available right now my first thought was "No". I could just Vibe Code my way to building an App or Web Application. After spending the last 3 weeks trying to build my dream App I realized that Yes, A.I. is good at coding, but, AI is not good at UI design and creating beautiful apps like your used to using. The apps that I was able to build were blocky and the design just didn't feel natural and The coding assistant could not create it the way that I envisioned it in my mind. After hours of frustration and the high's and low's of creating with an A.I. assistant I decided that it is in my best interest to learn at least the basics of Web Design and Programming. What a Front end, Back end, and Full Stack Developer actually is so that I can better communicate my ideas to my A.I. assistant.

What makes The Odin Project so special?

I've been a big fan of Free Code Camp but up until today I have only visited their Youtube Channel. Which is why I have probably never heard of The Odin Project up until now. Like FreeCodeCamp The Odin Project is totally free. Not only is it totally free, it is designed so that you can learn at your own pace and in your own time. What I really like about it is that the curriculum starts with Foundations first and is totally transparent about the difficulty that comes with learning how to code.
There is also a great deal of Resources and other ways for you to solidify your learning within the curriculum.
So If your interested in learning about Web Development or Programming The Odin Project is a great place to start.

pretty cool seeing someone actually start from zero like this - makes me wonder if knowing the basics sticks with you longer than just letting ai do it for you

I was letting ai do everything at first. But, there was a lot of stuff ai was doing that I did not understand. Initially everything would start out good. Then as my project got further along the ai would start messing up stuff. And, I didnt understand why. I feel that If I learn myself I can better understand whats goin on and use ai to help instead of relying solely on ai.
