Claude Opus 4.7 inflation is 45% — here's how to stay at $2/month

Hacker News is buzzing today: Opus 4.7 to 4.6 inflation is ~45%.

That means if you were paying $20/month for Claude before, you're now effectively paying the equivalent of $29/month in token value. The model got better, but your dollar got weaker.

For developers in the US or EU, this is annoying. For developers in Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, or Indonesia — it's a brick wall.

The real inflation table

Let's look at what 45% inflation on a $20/month AI subscription actually means globally:

Country ChatGPT before After 45% inflation Days of salary
🇺🇸 USA $20/month $29 equivalent 0.1 days
🇳🇬 Nigeria N32,000/month N46,400 equivalent 4.6 days
🇵🇰 Pakistan PKR 5,600/month PKR 8,120 equivalent 3.1 days
🇵🇭 Philippines P1,120/month P1,624 equivalent 1.8 days
🇧🇩 Bangladesh BDT 2,200/month BDT 3,190 equivalent 2.9 days
🇮🇩 Indonesia Rp320,000/month Rp464,000 equivalent 2.3 days
🇰🇪 Kenya KSh2,600/month KSh3,770 equivalent 2.1 days
🇮🇳 India Rs1,600/month Rs2,320 equivalent 1.1 days

The US developer barely notices. The Lagos developer just lost another half-week of salary — on software.

Why I didn't raise the price

I run SimplyLouie — a Claude-powered chat tool that costs $2/month globally.

When Anthropic raised their API costs, I had the same conversation every SaaS founder has:

"Our infrastructure costs went up. We should pass that on to users."

I didn't.

Here's why: the people who benefit most from SimplyLouie are the ones who can least afford a price increase. A Pakistani freelancer in Karachi using AI to write better Upwork proposals doesn't have a 45% margin to absorb. They have a fixed budget and a fixed need.

So the price stays at $2/month. Indefinitely.

The actual prices by country

SimplyLouie launched country-specific pages with local currency pricing so the cost is never confusing:

Developer API: also not 45% more expensive

If you're building with the API, the inflation is even worse at the raw API level. Opus 4.7 tokenizer changes mean you're burning more tokens per equivalent output.

The SimplyLouie developer API is also $2/month:

curl https://simplylouie.com/api/chat \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
"messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Write a Flutterwave integration in Node.js"}]
  }'

The rescue mission

50% of every SimplyLouie subscription goes to animal rescue. The product exists because of Louie — a rescue dog who made it after being found on the streets.

So when you pay $2/month, you're getting Claude-powered AI AND funding rescue operations. Not a bad deal even before the 45% inflation math.
