OnePlus launched the OnePlus 16 in China on October 12, 2026, starting at CNY 5,999, or about $896. Its headline part is a 9,000mAh battery, the largest the company has put in a phone. The 16 is sold only in China for now, so most of the world can only watch how that battery performs.

Price and availability

GSMArena lists the base and top prices in US dollars. PhoneBunch and two other outlets give the full ladder:

Memory and storage China price
12GB + 256GB CNY 5,999 (about $896)
12GB + 512GB CNY 6,799
16GB + 512GB CNY 7,499
16GB + 1TB CNY 8,499 (about $1,270)

Gadget Review notes that Gizchina reported lower prices, CNY 5,699 and CNY 8,199, for the base and top models. The other outlets agree on CNY 5,999 and CNY 8,499.

The sale date also differs by report. PhoneBunch, MobiGyaan and the Free Press Journal say sales began on October 13. GSMArena says open sales start on October 31.

China is the only confirmed market. The Free Press Journal says "international availability, including India, remains unconfirmed." Android Headlines reported before launch that no US or European release is planned.

The battery and the chip

OnePlus calls the 9,000mAh cell the largest it has used in a phone. Gadget Review says it is a silicon-carbon battery, a newer chemistry that packs more charge into the same space. OnePlus China claims it keeps more than 80% of its capacity for at least five years. Gadget Review points out that no one has tested that yet.

It charges at 100W by wire and 50W wirelessly. MobiGyaan and PhoneBunch list 27W reverse wired charging, for topping up another device.

The phone runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 2nm chip. The Free Press Journal lists a top speed of 5.01GHz. OnePlus claims 13% faster processing and 44% faster graphics than the previous model, according to PhoneBunch. These are company figures, not independent tests.

Display and cameras

The 6.78-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 1,272 x 2,772 pixels. It adjusts between 1Hz and 165Hz in daily use, according to MobiGyaan. GSMArena says it reaches 185Hz in supported games. Refresh rate is how many times a second the screen redraws, so higher numbers look smoother in fast games.

Camera Specification
Main 200MP, f/1.6, 1/1.4-inch sensor, optical stabilization
Telephoto 50MP, f/2.6, 3x optical zoom
Ultrawide 50MP, f/2.0, 116-degree view
Selfie 50MP, f/2.0

The Free Press Journal adds 4K video at 60 frames per second. The phone ships with ColorOS 17, based on Android 17, according to MobiGyaan.

It weighs 217 to 220 grams and is 8.45 to 8.55mm thick, depending on the color. MobiGyaan and PhoneBunch list IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for water and dust resistance. The colors are Dark Forest, Martian Masterpiece and a third that outlets name either Starlight or Tomorrow's Star.

What this means for developers

For app makers and teams that buy phones, the OnePlus 16 is a signal more than a product to stock.

  • Big batteries are spreading. A 9,000mAh flagship sets a new bar for battery life. When the rest of the phone lasts longer, an app that drains power in the background is easier for users to spot.
  • Test at 185Hz. Game and animation code that assumes 60Hz or 120Hz can stutter or run too fast at unusual refresh rates. Tie motion to elapsed time, not to frames.
  • Plan for Android 17 on ColorOS. The phone ships on the newest Android version with OnePlus's own interface on top. Check background tasks and notifications on ColorOS itself, not only on stock Android.
  • Do not plan a fleet purchase outside China. No other market is confirmed, and none is planned for the US or Europe, per Android Headlines. Teams in those regions should not budget for this model.
  • Wait for independent battery tests. The five-year capacity claim is OnePlus's own. Long-term tests will show whether silicon-carbon cells hold up.
