Arduino, a prominent name in open-source hardware, has introduced the Portenta Hat Carrier, expanding its Arduino PRO range. This new hardware component is designed to transform the Portenta X8 into an industrial Single Board Computer (SBC) compatible with Raspberry Pi® Hats. It is also compatible with Portenta H7 and Portenta C33 systems on modules. The Portenta Hat Carrier simplifies the expansion of Portenta modules to include various peripherals, such as Raspberry Pi® HATs compatible with the Model B 40-pin header, Ethernet, microSD, and USB support.
This versatile tool is well-suited for both prototyping and scaling up, featuring dedicated JTAG pins for quick debugging, an onboard CAN transceiver, additional analog I/Os, and a PWM fan connector. Arduino's Portenta Hat Carrier is tailored to meet the needs of professional users implementing Raspberry Pi® technology in commercial solutions.
Massimo Banzi, Arduino’s co-founder, chairman, and CMO, highlighted how the Portenta Hat Carrier bridges the gap between the Arduino and Raspberry Pi® ecosystems, providing a modular platform for a wide range of applications. It facilitates Linux prototyping using Raspberry Pi® Hats and can be applied to various industrial applications, from robotics and intelligent sorting to vehicle monitoring and smart sensing.
The Portenta Hat Carrier is available for purchase through the Arduino Store and major distributors, priced at €39 / US$45. This addition to Arduino's hardware lineup offers a valuable tool for developers and professionals seeking seamless integration and versatility in their projects.
