Heyyy, everyone!
A little question popped into my mind today, so I thought I'd ask you all!
What is your favourite dish?
Do you enjoy trying new dishes, learning how to cook something new, or are you someone who simply loves waiting for their favourite food to be ready?
By the way, Xulingfeng, I'm sorry! It looks like I've stolen your content. π I just wanted to ask people about their favourite dishes. Hehe!
I'm also really interested in learning about the traditional foods of different countries. Every country has its own unique food culture, and I love discovering more about it!
So, tell me! What's your favourite dish, and which country's traditional food would you love to learn more about?

Hmm, this is a tough question for me. As a Chinese person, there are simply too many amazing dishes in China. I could keep listing them for years and still not finish, so I donβt even know where to start, hahaha π
If I really have to pick some, these are what Iβve been eating lately: Guobaorou (crispy sweet-and-sour pork), scrambled eggs with tomatoes, shredded pork with sweet bean sauce, Mapo Tofu, preserved egg tofu, pork bone soup with white radish, dry-fried green beans, sweet and sour spareribs.π€£so many many many
You should definitely try our Rajasthani Dal Baati too! But it tastes best when served on a gold, brass, or copper plate, with a whole bowl of ghee(Clarified Butter: )on the side. π€£
I only care if itβs spicy. I canβt handle spicy food. π€£
Not spicy at all! :D

Sure I know how to cook! You could ask: what proper Chinese man canβt cook? Hahaha π
Why π You know how to cook, and so does @ndcodes ! My mom says, βEveryone knows how to cook. Youβre a girl, and you still donβt know how to cook!β Youβll regret it later! βΉοΈ
Ah, @technogamerz Divya, don't let that one get to you. π
Knowing how to cook and being good at it are two very different things. I cook most weekends, and I still ruin things regularly. Too much salt, wrong texture, the right ingredients added in the wrong order.
Nobody is born knowing. Every cuisine I listed came from following somebody else's recipe badly, then slightly less badly. Cookbooks did most of the work. Collect a few you like the look of, and you'll never be short of something to try next.
I see cooking as an art, and nobody's early attempts at an art are any good.
And there's no deadline on it. If you fancy starting, start. If you don't, that's fine too. It should be something you want, not something you owe anyone. π
Haha that oldβfashioned mindset is really tough. Cooking is just a life skill, not something girls are supposed to be born with. Itβs totally fine whether you cook or not π
Thank you, @ndcodes and Lingfeng ππ»π The funny thing is, Iβve actually been cooking for years, and I genuinely enjoy it. Iβve probably made around 1,000 different dishes by now!
My problem isnβt cooking itself, but the old-fashioned mindset that sometimes makes me lose the desire to cook. My mom encourages me to cook because I currently live away from home and have to prepare my own meals. And honestly, I can be a little lazy sometimes, so she has a point too!
I completely agree with you that cooking is an art. It should be something we enjoy and learn at our own pace. But challenging deep-rooted traditional thinking isnβt easy. Sometimes, itβs not the task itself that bothers us, but the mindset behind the expectation.
Follow your heart. Cooking is meant to be enjoyed.

@xulingfeng that looks really delicious.

Yummy post, I love it!
Italian food is my favorite, by far. This is one of the 56 billion reasons why my passport keeps getting Italian stamps. βοΈ
Favorite food? Goes without saying... π
American or Italian version of pizza? Oh no, please donβt make me choose. I love both. At Domino's I'm a pepperoni guy. In Italy I mostly go for diavola.
Great, now I'm starving.
This post isn't good for my diet π
Your words have honestly made me so hungry! To be honest, there are so many dishes to try that itβs really hard to decide what to eat, isnβt it? β€οΈ
You started it!π€£
I totally get what you're saying. That's my problem when I travel too. I walk A LOT, sometimes over 20,000 steps a day, so I want to stay light. But at the same time, I want to taste EVERYTHING. So many options and so little time to eat? Total nightmare.
My brain goes like:
"OK, pasta or pizza? Pizza. But I'm kinda in the mood for pasta... but I had pasta last night. OK, pizza. Now which one? I kinda want diavola, but I've had it two days in a row... OK, let's do capricciosa. No, wait, that one looks better. Or that one. Or that one..." Ugh.
Yeah, I know the feeling.π
2000 steps wow! Sorry 20,000 π±
At my school, we used to secretly eat so many snacks before the lunch break that we would still be hungry when it was finally time for lunch. π€£ And don't even get me started on the sweets. They were soooo delicious!
Yeah, I wish I could say the same. π I never had lunch at school. Everything was too expensive and I was too broke, and the school didn't seem to care either.
Sweet old days. (Not really. π€£)
We used to bring lunch from home. Even if our school sold food, I still wouldnβt buy anything. How could I? I had no money! πππ» I was literally the poorest among the poor. π€£
Oh... hey, look at us now. Living proof that where you start doesn't decide where you end up! High fiveβοΈ

Iβm Italian, so you might expect me to say Italian food is my favorite... and in a way, it is. However, I absolutely love Asian cuisines like Thai, Japanese, and Chinese. Japanese food in particular, not sushi, but their traditional dishes, is mind-blowing. so if I can choose IΒ΄d love to learn Jpanese food, sure
Iβm the same way. Iβm Georgian and we have one of the best cuisine in the world and I absolutely love it.
But Italian is still my favorite.
Greetings from TΓΌrkiye! πΉπ·π
Choosing just one favorite dish here is almost impossible, but Iβd probably go with Δ°skender kebab. Thinly sliced meat over bread, tomato sauce, melted butter, and yogurt on the side. Simple ingredients, incredible result!
And honestly, Turkish cuisine is a dangerous rabbit hole. Once you start exploring, thereβs no turning back. π
Iβd love to explore more traditional Japanese dishes, especially the ones you donβt usually find in restaurants.
Now Iβm curious, have you ever tried Turkish food? π
That sounds really good! I've never tried Turkish food before. Could you tell me a little about it? :D
Of course! ππΉπ·
Turkish cuisine is incredibly diverse. We have everything from kebabs and homemade soups to stuffed grape leaves (sarma), mantΔ± (tiny Turkish dumplings), and countless traditional desserts.
One thing I love about our food culture is that eating isnβt just about food. Itβs about bringing people together, sharing stories, and somehow turning a simple dinner into a three-hour conversation. π
And since Iβm from Bursa, I have to recommend Δ°skender kebab. It actually originated here!
Oh, and donβt leave TΓΌrkiye without trying baklava and Turkish tea. Youβll probably forget all about your diet! π
If you ever visit TΓΌrkiye, come hungry. Very hungry! πβ€οΈ
Now Iβm getting jealous!
Woa, difficult! Mostly vegetarian since approx. 10 years, although I still eat fish from time to time, and meat on occasion (yeah how principled and consistent I am, lol),
But if you ask me which dish is really my favorite dish, nah I couldn't tell ya! I like to eat a lot of different stuffs, kind of like an omnivore (but definitely more a herbivore, lol) - doesn't really matter, as long as it's good! :-)
I've been vegetarian for 22 years π€£
I said 10 years but it's a bit longer, more like 12-15 years or so (started gradually then became more and more so) - but I'm an 'opportunistic' one, are you really principled, i.e. 100% of the time, all occasions?
I've been vegetarian since the day I was born. I didn't even know about non-veg food until I read about it in books and heard people talking about it. Basically, my entire family and village are vegetarian, so it's just become a habit for us.
Been to India 4 (or was it 5?) times and only ate vegetarian there - and (needless to say) it was just excellent ...
When it comes to Indian cuisine, meat doesn't really have much added value, IMO (apologies to the Indian Muslims and the Tandoori lovers, lol) ...
Iβm actually not much of a foodie myself. Iβm happy with simple, home-cooked food like okra, roti, lentils and rice. β€οΈ But I absolutely love cooking! I enjoy trying new dishes, experimenting with different ways of preparing the same dish, and adding my own little twists to recipes. I have quite a few foodies around me, so cooking for them and seeing them enjoy what I make is a joy in itself. π
Reading everyone's comments has given me so many new dishes to try! I'm always up for exploring new vegetarian recipes, especially from different cultures. Looks like my cooking experiments have a new list to work through! π
Thatβs so lovely! β€οΈ I think cooking for others and seeing them enjoy your food is a different kind of happiness. π And experimenting with different vegetarian dishes sounds really fun! Now Iβm curious, whatβs one dish you absolutely love cooking? π
Ohh, that's a difficult one! π What I love cooking changes depending on my mood, but Schezwan fried rice, noodles, Manchurian, rajma chawal, samosas, jalebi and gulab jamun are a few favourites. Wait a minute, I think I've just listed all my husband's favourite dishes! πβ€οΈ
Haha so sweet! π β€οΈ
pho
Pho is a Vietnamese dish, right? Do you like Vietnamese food?
Yes. Mainly bc I am vietnamese lol
Honestly, I had a feeling just from your name, but since you live US, I wasnβt sure.
I can cook only one dish that is with poha (rice flakes).
Steps for pohe ka kheer:
I've eaten poha so many times, but I've never tried poha kheer. Is it tasty? :D
yep! simple but tasty!
Most of my weekends go on cooking something Iβve never made before, and itβs become the best part of the week.
Nobody has brought West African food into this thread yet, so let me fix that. Mine is jollof rice. You can pair it with almost anything, and it works just as well vegetarian or vegan, which is the part people donβt expect. Iβve actually written about it here on dev.to β dev.to/ndcodes/jollof-a-love-lette...
Food is how I get to know people. You learn more about a place from one meal and the story behind it than from anything you read about it.
So far Iβve cooked through Indian, Chinese, Japanese, English, Scottish, German and American dishes. Japanese surprised me the most, and I notice a few people here saying they want the traditional side rather than the restaurant version. Thatβs the right instinct.
I haven't made a new dish recently; it's been a repeat of my favourite dish, and the past weeks have been very busy. But I have loads of ideas for beautiful dishes to make. I even made a list for it π
Naan Paneer.
Maine naan kabhi khaya nahi hai, lekin iske baare mein suna hai. Kya aap bata sakte hain ki yeh tasty hota hai kya? π
hmm tasty hota hai paneer ke saath.
ikdam khake maja aa jayega
π
lekin butter naan normal naan acha nhi hai
Or koi dish bhi hai kya?
Jo aapko pasand ho?
KFC, PIZZA, PURI AND AALU KA BHUNJIYA..
KFC kya hota hai? π€£
don't know KFC???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Absolutely, shoyu ramen π
I eat it every Sunday night. πΈπ
